Stephen Simon is the producer of the Oscar-Award winning film What Dreams May Come with Robin Williams, Annabella Sciorra, and Cuba Gooding, Jr. He also produced Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeve, Jane Seymour, and Christopher Plummer.
On January 3, 2018, his wife suddenly passed away in her sleep at the age of 54. Six weeks later, Lauren began to communicate with Stephen. In October 2018, they started to write a book together, What Dreams Have Come: Loving Through The Veil.
I had the chance to speak to Stephen about his book and communications with his wife. During the interview Stephen talked about why he wrote this book, how his wife communicated with him after she transitioned, and how others can trust their heart if they believe their loved ones who passed away may be communicating with them. Stephen shared that one of the reasons he wrote this book was to help other people feel more comfort and less alone if they believe their loved ones may be communicating with them after they died.
Stephen speaks with honesty, insight, and humor throughout the conversation. One thing he told me that I felt was particularly helpful was that he said he can not scientifically prove that his wife was communicating with him, but he has faith that she was communicating with him by trusting and feeling his heart. Hopefully, Stephen’s book will help other people feel less alone if they are having connections with loved ones who have passed. Additionally, when Stephen talked about the love he has for his wife and the connection they still experience, it helped me feel more faith that the love and relationship I have with my wife, family, and friends will never end.
Stephen also discussed with me what it was like to make What Dreams May Come, a film that largely takes place in the afterlife. He talks about the 20 year process it took him to find a director, movie studio, and other people in Hollywood to help him make that film.
